Natural History

Bearded dragons are native to Australia, inhabiting open woodland, savannah and desert areas. They can often be seen basking on stumps and rocks during sunny times of the morning and afternoon.

They get their name from the spiky beard on their throat, which turns black when the lizard is stressed. Bearded dragons commonly reach around 40cm – 50cm when adult, although larger specimens can be found. In the wild these lizards will generally loive to around 5-8 years, but will good care a pet Beardie can live for up to 14 years.

Beardies are easy to care for, providing you have the right equipment. Their relatively small size, friendly nature and characterful behaviour make them and interesting and rewarding pet.
